Trying to obtain your driver's license or permit?

At Academy School of Driving, LLC, we offer the written test and driving test so you can get your Colorado Driver's Instruction Permit and License.

No matter your age nor if you held a driver's license before, you must take the written test before the DMV will issue your instruction permit.

If you are over the age of 18, you will need to pass the written test, obtain your driver's permit at the DMV, and then take your driving test to obtain your driver's license.

If you are under 18 years of age, you will need to pass your written test, go to the DMV to have your instruction permit issued and hold it for one year before taking your driving test to obtain your license.

Please bring a photo ID (passport, school id, military id)


If your driver's license was revoked or suspended, you may need to pay a reinstatement fee to the DMV before you are eligible to take the written test. You can pay the fee on the DMV's website, www.mydmv.colorado.gov.


If you are under the age of 15.5 years old, you must complete a 30-hour classroom before you are eligible to take the written test.

If you are between 16 and 15.5 years old, you may complete either our 30-hour classroom or a 4-hour program.

You must have your instruction permit to take the driving test. Once you've passed your driving test, you can upgrade your instruction permit to a driver's license on the DMV's website mydmv.colorado.gov or by scheduling an appointment at the DMV. Please bring a valid Colorado instruction permit


If you are under 18 years old, you can test once with an out of state permit as long as you've held it for more than one year and have not already taken a drive test in Colorado.


If you are 18 years old or older, you must have a Colorado instruction permit. You can take an out of state permit to the DMV and exchange it for Colorado permit.


A parent or guardian is required to be in the office with a student under the age of18. This is a Department of Revenue requirement.


Interlock Drive Test

You must have a vehicle with the interlock device. Bring current registration and current proof of insurance.
